Area 51

Area 51 is a 2022 American science fiction film written, co-produced, and directed by Christopher Nolan. It is based on the US Air Force base of the same name. The film stars Vin Diesel, Margot Robbie, Morgan Freeman, Leonardo DiCaprio, David Harbour, Lupita Nyong'o, Tom Hardy, and Milla Jovovich. It chronicles the story of Walter Orion (Diesel), a veteran officer who disobeys orders to kill his daughter, Zoë, when she enters Area 51. When UFOs appear, Walter and his wife, Diana, must protect Zoë and escape the base. Area 51 premiered at the 79th Venice International Film Festival on June 15th, 2022 and was released on July 6th; it received generally positive reviews from critics, with praise for its emotion, Nolan's direction, screenplay, visual effects, musical score, and Diesel, Robbie, Freeman, Harbour, and Jovovich's performances, though criticism was aimed at its complex story and its perceived lack of ambition. It also attained a strong cult following, grossing $79 million worldwide against its $1.19 million budget. After its release, Area 51 was later critically reevaluated and is now widely considered Nolan's magnum opus and one of the greatest science fiction films ever made, especially for its groundbreaking effects and for reassessing Diesel's acting. It was also selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by Library of Congress, finding it "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" in 2027.

Celestials: The Origins

Celestials: The Origins is a 2024 American superhero film based on Jaxon Harmon's superhero team the Celestials. Produced by RatPac-Dune Entertainment and distributed by Paramount Pictures, it was originally intended to be a sequel to the first film, but after it was renamed, it was released as a prequel. Directed by Tim Story, from a screenplay and story by Joss Whedon, the film stars Timothèe Chalamet, Jamie Bell, Zac Efron, Odeya Rush, Oscar Isaac, Donald Glover, Don Cheadle, and David Harbour. In the film, a power-hungry supervillain manipulates the mascot of Fredbear's Family Diner into causing the bite of '83, not knowing that he would create a vengeful superhero destined to kill him. The mascot, now known as Golden Freddy, allies with a good-hearted animatronic called Shadow Freddy to stop his nemesis and form the Celestials. The Origins was released on August 4th, 2024. It became the second-highest-grossing film of 2024, grossing $546 million worldwide, and received positive reviews from critics, who praised its visual effects, direction, screenplay, action sequences, musical score, Chamelet, Bell, Rush, and Isaac's performances, themes, and faithfulness to the first film. A sequel, taking place after the events of Celestials and this film, is in development.

Five Nights at Freddy's: A Nightmare's Wrath

Five Nights at Freddy's: A Nightmare's Wrath is a 2024 American epic action film written, co-produced, and directed by M. Night Shyamalan. Produced by RatPac-Dune Entertainment and distributed by Paramount Pictures, it is the second installment in the High Legion film series. The film stars an ensemble cast including Dwayne Johnson, Natalie Portman, Ewan McGregor, Hugh Jackman, Jeremy Irons, Jake Gyllenhaal, Jennifer Lawrence, Danny Glover, Sam Worthington, Tika Sumpter, and Laurence Fishburne. In the film, Golden Freddy (Johnson) has become much more skilled in combat and much wiser, only to find that he is also discovering a darker side to himself. Nightmare (reprised by Irons from The Five Nights at Freddy's: The Nightmare Ends) escapes from his lifelong imprisonment to resume his war on humanity. A Nightmare's Wrath was released on July 20th, 2024, to generally positive reviews, with praise for its visual effects, action sequences, performances (namely Johnson, Portman, Irons, and Fishburne), storyline, Hans Zimmer's score, and emotional set pieces. It became the highest-grossing film of 2024, grossing $916 million worldwide, and was a huge financial success. A back-to-back sequel, The Knight of Springtrap, was released a year later.

Celestials

Celestials is a 2022 American superhero film written, co-produced, and directed by Christopher Nolan. Based on Jaxon Harmon's superhero team of the same name and produced by RatPac-Dune Entertainment, it is the first film in the Celestial Five Nights at Freddy's Universe (FNAFU). Celestials began filming on October 1st, 2016, with Sony Pictures Releasing as the distributor. Sony hired Nolan to direct, and further filming occurred just 1 year later; following its premiere in San Francisco, the film was released on February 12th, 2022. It was a box-office success, grossing $581 million worldwide, and receiving positive reviews from critics and audiences, citing its performances, story, visual effects, and the action sequences. Its critical and financial success revitalized the superhero genre, particularly around the villainous variation of Golden Freddy. A prequel entitled Celestials: The Origins was released 2 years later, while a sequel is in development.

The Phantom's Edge

The Phantom's Edge is a 2025 American action film directed by David Twohy and produced by Guillermo del Toro from story by him and Twohy. It is the third installment in the Chronicles of Mister Wolf film series, the sequel to the 2024 film of the same name, and the first of two conclusions to the series. The film stars Alexander Skarsgård, Emma Stone, John Krasinski, Tyrese Gibson, Sigourney Weaver, Laurence Fishburne, Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and John Glover. The Phantom's Edge was released on March 2nd, 2025; it received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised the action sequences, darker elements, mature themes, Twohy's direction, screenplay, visual style, music, characters, and the cast's performances and chemistry. The film was a box-office success, grossing $935 million against a $189 million budget. A sequel is in development.

Five Nights at Freddy's: A Hero's Awakening

Five Nights at Freddy's: A Hero's Awakening is a 2022 American epic action film written, co-produced and directed by M. Night Shyamalan. A Hero's Awakening was released on August 11th, 2022; it was a box-office success, grossing over $561 million, and received generally positive reviews, citing its performances, story, action sequences, Shyamalan's direction, visual effects, Hans Zimmer's score, and emotional depth. However, several of the crew who made the games panned the film for its character development, with many of them feeling that the story has no faith despite Shyamalan making a clear statement that it takes place after the events of the games. Its success prompted Shyamalan to develop multiple sequels, beginning with the 2024 film A Nightmare's Wrath.

The Eagle's Wisdom

The Eagle's Wisdom is a 2024 American epic action film directed and co-produced by Christopher Nolan from a screenplay by him and his brother Jonathan Nolan. Batman: Dark War

Batman: Dark War is a 2022 American superhero film based on the DC Comics character Batman and inspired by the Injustice comics and the film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Produced by DC Films and RatPac-Dune Entertainment and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, it is the first film in the DC Blood War Universe. Directed by Lexi Alexander, who wrote the screenplay with Zack Snyder, the film stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Elizabeth Olsen, Peter Sarsgaard, James McAvoy, Jim Caviezel, Natalie Portman, Denzel Washington, Jaimie Alexander, Anya Taylor-Joy, Timothèe Chalamet, Sterling K. Batman: Dark War was released on October 26th, 2022; it received overwhelmingly positive reviews upon release, with critics praising the visual effects, direction, screenplay, action sequences, the serious and dark tone, musical score, performances (particularly from Morgan, Olsen, Sarsgaard and Caviezel) and the emotionally thematic elements. The film was a box-office success and performed far above expectations, grossing $791 million worldwide. Legionnaire: Legends Never Die

Legionnaire: Legends Never Die is a 2026 American epic science fiction action film written, co-produced, and directed by Neill Blomkamp. It is a direct sequel to Attack of Shadows and is the fifth and final installment in the Galaxy's Edge film series, as well as the only film in the series not to be based on a book by Jason Anspach and Nick Cole, but features a story conceived by the two writers. The film stars Vin Diesel, Liv Tyler, James Marsden, Jordana Brewster, Colin Farrell, Lucas Black, Peter Weller, Tyrese Gibson, Naomie Harris and Tika Sumpter. Legends Never Die premiered in Los Angeles on December 18th, 2026, and was released 5 days later; it was the first film in the series since the first and second films to receive critical acclaim, with praise for uniting the original and new casts, as well as the action sequences, visual effects, darker tone, direction, story, and the film's emotional weight. It also grossed over $2.291 billion worldwide and became the highest grossing film in the series. The film became the best reviewed Galaxy's Edge film, and is considered the fitting end to the series.

The Chronicles of Mister Wolf

The Chronicles of Mister Wolf is a 2024 American action film directed by David Twohy and produced by Guillermo del Toro from story by him and Twohy. It is a sequel to the 2022 film The Howling Death and is the second installment in the Chronicles of Mister Wolf film series. Luigi's Mansion: Phantom is the Night

Luigi's Mansion: Phantom is the Night is a 2024 American fantasy science fiction action film directed by Tim Burton and produced by Guillermo del Toro from story by him and Burton, based on the video game series Luigi's Mansion created by Nintendo. It is the second installment in the Luigi's Mansion film series. The film stars Bradley Cooper, Emma Watson, Jonah Hill, Jack Black, Jennifer Lawrence, Halle Berry, Ron Perlman, Mike Myers, Joonas Suotamo, and Danny DeVito. Phantom is the Night was released on March 11th, 2024; it was a financial success having grossed over $918 million worldwide. Cyclops

Cyclops is a 2022 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing, it is the first film in Sony's X-Men Universe. The film was directed by Bryan Singer, who also directed multiple films in the original X-Men film series, and stars John Krasinski as Scott Summers, a former high school student who was often bullied by his classmates and discouraged by his teacher until he unintentionally showed them the error of their ways when his eyes fired lazer beams. As a result, Charles Xavier (a role reprised by Patrick Stewart) takes him to his School for Gifted Students. Alongside Krasinski and Stewart, it stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Hugh Dancy, Michael Caine, and Olivia Munn, who reprises her role as Psylocke from the original X-Men film series. The film was released on July 9th, 2022. Cyclops was a critical and financial success. It received generally positive reviews from critics, with praise for Singer's direction, action sequences, visual effects, stunts, and Krasinski's performance. Additionally, the film performed above expectations, grossing $757 million worldwide against a budget of $181 million and became one of Singer's highest-grossing films of his career. Attack of Shadows

Shadow the Hedgehog: Resurrection

Shadow the Hedgehog: Resurrection is a 2026 American science fiction action film based on the Sega Games character of the same name. It is the sequel to Shadow the Hedgehog: Reign of Black Doom, and is the fifth installment in the Sonic the Hedgehog film series. Directed by Zack Snyder, the film features Keanu Reeves reprising his role as Shadow the Hedgehog. Morena Baccarin, Ben Schwartz, Idris Elba, Colleen O'Shaughnessey, Jim Carrey and Mckenna Grace also reprise their roles from the previous films, while Jared Leto, Laurence Fishburne, and Dakota Fanning join the cast. It follows Shadow, who is revived by the Master Emerald due to the world needing him to stop Eggman, who has betrayed Sonic and his friends after Shadow had been killed by Black Doom. Golden

Golden is a 2022 American science fiction action film directed by Tim Miller, based on the Five Nights At Freddy's character Golden Freddy. Starring Sylvester Stallone, Jessica Alba, Linden Ashby, Kate Mara, Ewan McGregor, Jay Hernandez, Will Smith, Joe Morton, Jude Law and William Fichtner, the film chronicles the story of Golden Freddy (Stallone), who is taking to life as a mercenary. The problem is the only friend who trusts him is the Puppet (Alba), as his other friends have distrusted him. He eventually regains their trust, but they soon become as much a target for the law as he is. Golden premiered in San Francisco on October 29th, 2022 and was released 4 days later; it received generally positive reviews, praise for Miller's direction, screenplay, action sequences, visual effects, promising story elements, dark tone, and the performances, particularly those of Stallone, Alba, Ashby and Mara. Considered one of Miller's best films and one of the best science fiction films, the film has earned a strong cult following and grossed over $59 million worldwide. A sequel is in development, with Stallone set to reprise his role.

Legionnaire

Legionnaire is a 2022 American epic science fiction action film written, co-produced, and directed by Neill Blomkamp, based on the novel of the same name by Jason Anspach and Nick Cole. It is the first installment in the Galaxy's Edge film series. The film stars Vin Diesel, Liv Tyler, Billy Crudup, Morgan Freeman, Sharlto Copley, Tika Sumpter, Matt Damon, and Jordana Brewster. It is set in the year 2047, where Sgt. Cohen Cchun (Diesel) must lead a group of survivors, including Bryla Overton (Tyler) and Corbett Frank (Crudup), while also coming into conflict with cyber-terrorist Salazar Amand (Copley) and protecting the survivors from him. The film suffered a difficult production following a series of critical and commercial failures in Blomkamp's career. The production involved several replacement directors until Blomkamp was hired in 2021. Legionnaire was released to critical acclaim, with critics praising the film's bright tone, direction, cinematography, action sequences, respect to its source material, the emotional weight of the story, screenplay, visual effects, style, and Bear McCreary's score, as well as Diesel, Tyler, Crudup, Copley and Freeman's performances. Gods

Gods is a 2022 American semi-biographical thriller film produced, co-written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan. It stars Anne Hathaway in the main role, alongside Olga Kurylenko, Sigourney Weaver, Kate Hudson, John Turturro, Pedro Pascal, and Michael Douglas as Bill Clinton. The film is partly based on true events and follows the exploits of Chloe Miller, the fictional Republican governor of North Carolina who battles the Democratic party during the aftermath of the downfall of their leader, Nancy Pelosi; to prevent the Democrats from succeeding in their corrupt plans, she seeks help from her friends, including former first lady Melania Trump, Florida governor Ron DeSantis, and former Democrat Tulsi Gabbard. It also stars William Baldwin, Denzel Washington, Kiernan Shipka, Diane Keaton, Robert Patrick, Vivica A. Fox, Richard Gere, Alec Baldwin, and James Woods. Gods was released on November 27th. Despite low expectations, it was a large financial success, grossing $2.250 billion and became Shyamalan's highest-grossing film to-date. The film was met with universal acclaim and was praised for its visual style, cinematography, direction, performances (particularly Hathaway and Kurylenko), ending, score, and emotional weight. It was also commended for its portrayal of the conflict between the Republicans and Democrats, noting their different visions of a peaceful society.
