Synopsis

Five Nights at Freddy's: The Knight of Springtrap is a 2025 American epic action film written, co-produced, and directed by M. Night Shyamalan. Produced by RatPac-Dune Entertainment and distributed by Paramount Pictures, it is a back-to-back sequel to A Nightmare's Wrath and the third installment in the High Legion film series. Dwayne Johnson, Natalie Portman, Ewan McGregor, Hugh Jackman, Crispin Glover, Jennifer Lawrence, and Laurence Fishburne reprise their roles from the previous films, and they are joined by Morgan Freeman, William Fichtner, and Michael Caine. After killing Nightmare, Golden Freddy (Johnson) disappears to pursue an urgent quest. He arrives at his destination only to find the resurrected Springtrap (Glover), who captures him and brainwashes him into his knight of destruction. Golden Freddy's friends, the Puppet, Freddy, Foxy, and Chica (Portman, Jackman, McGregor, and Lawrence) plan to stop Springtrap from destroying humanity. Following its premiere in San Francisco on March 12th, 2025, The Knight of Springtrap was released 8 days later on HBO Max; like the previous films, it received a positive reception, with praise for its direction, visual effects, action sequences, musical score, performances, screenplay, and emotional depth. The film was also a financial success like its predecessors, grossing $917 million worldwide and became one of the most successful launch items in HBO Max's history. A concluding sequel is in development.

  • misterwolf Plot: Following Nightmare's defeat, Golden Freddy goes on an objective to uncover a disturbance, only to find that his formerly deceased nemesis, Springtrap, emerge from a mysteriously red fog. Springtrap brainwashes Golden Freddy into becoming his knight and executioner, and tells him that he always comes back. The Puppet, Freddy Fazbear and other animatronics learn from the spirit of Shadow Freddy that not only Springtrap has returned, but Golden Freddy is missing.

  • misterwolf Springtrap sends Golden Freddy on a dangerous, "impossible" quest to discover the location of the Atlas, an ancient book that, according to the prophecy of the chosen one, only Golden Freddy can read. The Puppet and her group set out for the same quest and set out to San Francisco seeking help from ancient relic expert Alan Kravitz, who reveals that the location of the Atlas is in Mount Everest.

  • misterwolf The Puppet is jumped and engaged by Shadow Bonnie, who was sent by Springtrap; Freddy saves the Puppet and kills Shadow Bonnie, and Alan telepathically communicates with Shadow Freddy. He helps Shadow Freddy conclude that Golden Freddy has arrived at Everest after the Puppet and her group have.

  • misterwolf The group find the Atlas, and they attempt to retrieve it, only to be intervened Golden Freddy, who deliberately attacks them and takes the Atlas. The group immediately believe that Golden Freddy is no longer the warrior they once knew, plan to kill him, but the Puppet and Freddy are the only ones who know that there is still hope for him and they refuse the plan. Alan dies of old age, but delivers his soul to the spirit world to work with Shadow Freddy.

  • misterwolf Golden Freddy engages the group again, and attempts to kill Freddy, but he convinces Golden Freddy to stand down and spare everyone after reminding him of his destiny; Foxy the Pirate Fox attempts to kill Golden Freddy, but he knocks him unconscious and tells the group to restrain him before leaving San Francisco. When Foxy wakes up, he grudgingly accepts that Golden Freddy was persuaded by Freddy to spare everyone and to communicate with Shadow Freddy, who frees Golden Freddy from Springtrap's control.

  • misterwolf Springtrap and his army, which he built out of spirits of the children he killed, attack the group, but Golden Freddy saves them before engaging Springtrap in a last fight. Foxy is mortally wounded, and Chica is knocked unconscious, while the Puppet and Freddy defeat the rest of the army. In the ensuing fight, Golden Freddy and Springtrap frequently injure each other, but Golden Freddy is able to recover quicker, and he fatally slices Springtrap's torso open; he calls Springtrap "William Afton", and he tells him that he will not be brainwashed again before throwing him off a building to his death.

  • misterwolf In the aftermath, Golden Freddy reconciles with the dying Foxy, who remarks that he shouldn't have attacked him; Foxy dies, and the group buries him. Golden Freddy then uses the Atlas, which he now dedicates himself to safeguarding while protecting humanity, to learn about more relics that he must retrieve before going back to Mount Everest, deciding to meditate and restore his full strength before the end credits roll.
