Synopsis

Five Nights at Freddy's: A Nightmare's Wrath is a 2024 American epic action film written, co-produced, and directed by M. Night Shyamalan. Produced by RatPac-Dune Entertainment and distributed by Paramount Pictures, it is the second installment in the High Legion film series. The film stars an ensemble cast including Dwayne Johnson, Natalie Portman, Ewan McGregor, Hugh Jackman, Jeremy Irons, Jake Gyllenhaal, Jennifer Lawrence, Danny Glover, Sam Worthington, Tika Sumpter, and Laurence Fishburne. In the film, Golden Freddy (Johnson) has become much more skilled in combat and much wiser, only to find that he is also discovering a darker side to himself. Nightmare (reprised by Irons from The Five Nights at Freddy's: The Nightmare Ends) escapes from his lifelong imprisonment to resume his war on humanity. A Nightmare's Wrath was released on July 20th, 2024, to generally positive reviews, with praise for its visual effects, action sequences, performances (namely Johnson, Portman, Irons, and Fishburne), storyline, Hans Zimmer's score, and emotional set pieces. It became the highest-grossing film of 2024, grossing $916 million worldwide, and was a huge financial success. A back-to-back sequel, The Knight of Springtrap, was released a year later.

  • misterwolf Plot: 2 years after the events of the first film, Golden Freddy is now the elemental guardian of San Francisco. He learns of a new evil that threatens the human race, and warns the Puppet and the rest of the former High Legion members. Shadow Freddy, revealed to still be alive, learns that this evil is a rogue, nightmare animatronic, simply named Nightmare.

  • misterwolf Nightmare escapes from his lifelong imprisonment in the Nightmare World and goes after Golden Freddy after learning of his activities. Golden Freddy discovers his own darker side after he coldly berates Shadow Freddy for not being there to help him find the Soul Sword, and tries to control that side. The Puppet crosses paths with Nightmare's minions, lead by her counterpart Nightmarionne and consisting of Nightmare Bonnie and Nightmare Chica. She is easily overpowered, but Golden Freddy and Foxy the Pirate Fox; Golden Freddy aggressively chokes Nightmare Bonnie near to death, but Foxy stops him.

  • misterwolf Freddy Fazbear runs into Chica, who has become a highly trained warrior armed with various firearms, and they go on a quest to find the Master Crystal, a powerful relic which they intend to safeguard from those who would use it for evil. Golden Freddy unintentionally uses his darker side to interrogate Nightmare's minions, and they reveal the secret location of the Master Crystal. Freddy helps Golden Freddy back to his good side and they both realize that Nightmare has been controlling Golden Freddy's anger in an attempt to make him his servant.

  • misterwolf Nightmare's minions escape, while the Puppet ends up in another battle with Nightmarionne. Meanwhile, Nightmare, alongside his minions, set out to find the Master Crystal, but Golden Freddy is already at the location and retrieves the relic. The Puppet manages to behead Nightmarionne before warning Golden Freddy via telepathy that if he does not protect the Crystal, Nightmare will destroy every living thing across the world with it. Unwilling to let Nightmare get his hands on the Crystal, Shadow Freddy, having joined Freddy and Chica on their quest, lets himself be incinerated by Nightmare to allow the others to escape.

  • misterwolf Golden Freddy inadvertently attacks the group after realizing his darker side is still being controlled, before the Puppet fights Nightmare inside Golden Freddy's mind; she manages to kick him out, and Golden Freddy regains control of himself. The group sets out to San Francisco, before a remorseful Nightmare Chica joins them in their fight against Nightmare after learning his true intentions. Bonnie fights his Nightmare counterpart, and is fatally wounded, but persuades him to betray Nightmare before dying in his arms.

  • misterwolf Golden Freddy engages Nightmare in a brutal fight, while the rest of the group finds Nightmare Bonnie, who convinces them to let him help after he tells them Bonnie is dead. Shadow Freddy, who talks to Golden Freddy inside his head, advises him to trust his instincts in order to defeat Nightmare. Golden Freddy fatally impales Nightmare through the abdomen, and tells him that he should not have burrowed into his head, before finishing him off by beheading him.
