Synopsis

Five Nights at Freddy's: The Fate of the Legion is a 2026 American epic action film written, co-produced, and directed by M. Night Shyamalan. Produced by RatPac-Dune Entertainment and distributed by Paramount Pictures, it is a sequel to The Knight of Springtrap and the fourth installment in the High Legion film series. The film stars Dwayne Johnson as Golden Freddy, alongside Natalie Portman, Ewan McGregor, Hugh Jackman, Sam Elliott, Jennifer Lawrence, John Krasinski, Donald Glover, James Marsden, and Laurence Fishburne. Its story follows Golden Freddy as he must once again rely on his old friends, the Puppet (Portman) Freddy Fazbear (Jackman) and the others as they battle the remaining Nightmare Animatronics, led by Nightmare Fredbear (Elliott). The Fate of the Legion premiered in San Francisco on December 14th, 2026, and was released 7 days later; it grossed 2.291 billion at the box-office, becoming the highest-grossing film in the series. The film was met with a surprise critical acclaim, with praise for the story, visual effects, action sequences, the darker tone, cinematography, musical score, acting, direction, screenplay, characters, and emotional elements, with many considering it the best of the series and a satisfying conclusion to the saga. In 2029, a direct sequel entitled Five Nights at Freddy's: Resurrections was released, as a revisiting to the series.

  • misterwolf Plot: Following the events of the previous film, Golden Freddy has now found the last of the four artifacts of the prophecy; the Matrix of Power, and he now dedicates himself to safeguarding the relics and protecting humanity. Meanwhile, the Nightmare World wants Golden Freddy back, tasking Nightmare Fredbear and his Nightmare Animatronics to return with the latter. Freddy Fazbear witnesses the the Nightmare Animatronics arriving, and warns Golden Freddy, and they prepare with the Puppet and Chica.

  • misterwolf Mayor Jeremy Fitzgerald tells Golden Freddy that Foxy the Pirate Fox has been revived to serve Nightmare Fredbear, to which he replies that "Foxy is lost now". Shadow Freddy advises Golden Freddy to keep fighting until the Nightmare World stops sending its animatronics after him. The group's cover is blown when they realize that Monster Vinnie led the Nightmare Animatronics to them.

  • misterwolf Foxy attacks the group and tries to capture Golden Freddy, but he knocks Foxy unconscious and escapes with the group to Mt. Everest. Shadow Freddy appears and tells them to prepare for another fight with the Nightmare Animatronics, as they know their location via Nightmare Fredbear's tracking artifact, the Orb of Shadows. The group arm themselves, and Golden Freddy draws the Soul Sword in a fighting stance.

  • misterwolf The group fights off an army of Nightmare Animatronics led by Foxy and Monster Vinnie; Golden Freddy manages to free Foxy after he tells him that he is being used. The Puppet kills Vinnie, leaving Nightmare Fredbear enraged. Foxy fortifies Mt. Everest and, having been given the Orb of Shadows by Nightmare Fredbear, watches the Nightmare Animatronics with it. Fitzgerald, refusing to aid Nightmare Fredbear, sacrifices himself by letting himself be engulfed in the explosion of his the city hall.

  • misterwolf After another army attacks the group, Freddy and Foxy face off against Freddy's nightmare counterpart, Nightmare Freddy. Chica is seriously injured, but she survives and gets medical treatment from the Puppet. Freddy kills his counterpart, but not after being fatally stabbed from behind by one of Nightmare Fredbear's minions and being thrown off the mountain. Foxy joins Freddy soon after, but not before killing the attacking minions. Shadow Freddy reveals to Golden Freddy that Nightmare Fredbear wants to destroy the world before bringing him to the Nightmare World, and Golden Freddy decides he must face him alone, to which Shadow Freddy agrees.

  • misterwolf Golden Freddy confronts Nightmare Fredbear, and they engage in an excessively brutal final fight. Nightmare Fredbear stabs Golden Freddy through the chest, but he survives as he misses his heart, before slicing Nightmare Fredbear's torso open; he tells him that the Nightmare World will never have him, and that the darkness will never win. He then stabs Nightmare Fredbear through the heart, killing him.

  • misterwolf In the aftermath, the Nightmare World disintegrates as a result of Nightmare Fredbear's death. Golden Freddy decides to stay, and agrees to safeguard the relics with the Puppet and Chica, and they head back to Mt. Everest as the end credits roll.
