Synopsis

The Eagle's Wisdom is a 2024 American epic action film directed and co-produced by Christopher Nolan from a screenplay by him and his brother Jonathan Nolan. Produced by RatPac-Dune Entertainment and distributed by Paramount Pictures Releasing, it is the first installment in the Chronicles of the White Eagle film series. The film stars David Arquette, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Anthony Mackie, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Leonardo DiCaprio, James Marsden, and Michael Caine. The film suffered a difficult production; it was delayed several times, from 2016 to 2020 until its release was announced. The Eagle's Wisdom was released to largely positive reviews, with critics widely acclaiming the visual effects, the dark and emotional tone, musical score, cinematography, action sequences, direction, and the performances, particularly those of Hathaway, Arquette, and Abdul-Mateen. It also grossed $85 million against a $1.5 million budget and attained a strong cult following. A sequel is in development.

  • misterwolf Plot: In 29 BC, an entirely white Eagle faces off against an evil red Phoenix in what would be San Francisco. The Phoenix manages to kill the Eagle, but the Eagle reveals that he was not destined to destroy the Phoenix. Centuries later, now in 2024, Scarlett Creed, determined to find out what happened to her father, of whom she never knew, hears a strange voice echoing. She follows it, only to be ran over by a car, but a mysterious figure saves her and carries her to the forest. Scarlett wakes up in a cavern hidden by a rigged tree stump, and discovers the man who saved her, Matthias Haines, and his group of ancient humans known as the Storm Eagles.

  • misterwolf Matthias explains to Scarlett that she is the last descendant of the White Eagle, a great power that once belonged to the Eagle of the same name who was killed centuries ago. Matthias sends Scarlett to spy on her older brother, Michael, and she discovers that he is on the payroll of the crime lord Morbius Crane, though he is reluctant. Matthias's advisor, Craig Wright, who is also Scarlett's longtime friend, explains the Eagle's Wisdom, describing it as the only way to earn and keep the power of the White Eagle.

  • misterwolf Well-intentioned police officer, Allen Jones, fights Crane, but he overpowers him and tips off the police. The corrupt police chief, Gabriel Sinclair, tries to kill Matthias after a long fight, but Scarlett appears and shoots Sinclair in the head with his own gun. Scarlett and Matthias escape back to the cavern, where he confesses that he is her father. He explains that he left her because he did not want any harm coming to her, just as the police track them down. They fatally shoot Matthias, and Scarlett lures them into a trap; she manages to kill some of the officers, before being seriously injured by being impaled into a tree branch.

  • misterwolf Scarlett succumbs to her wounds, but the spirit of her ancestor appears in her mind. He tells her that she has found the Eagle's Wisdom and has thus earned the power of the White Eagle, and she is revived. Allen turns on the SFPD and teams up with Scarlett and the surviving Storm Eagles, and they arrive in San Francisco to battle the remaining SFPD. Allen sacrifices himself by letting himself get shot in order for Scarlett to convince Michael to be the brother she once knew, just as Morbius appears and massacres the entire SFPD and Storm Eagles except for Scarlett and Michael.

  • misterwolf Scarlett fights Morbius while Michael finds a mortally wounded Craig, who helps activate a power charge, blowing up the SFPD building. During the ensuing fight, Morbius is unmasked as the Red Phoenix himself, and he overpowers Scarlett, before Matthias' spirit appears in her mind and encourages her to unleash the power of the White Eagle to destroy Morbius. She regains her strength and unleashes her powers, destroying Morbius and saving San Francisco.

  • misterwolf Michael redeems himself for his selfishness by aiding recovery efforts, and reconciles with Scarlett, while local author Burt M. Quinn decides to write a book about the Storm Eagles. Scarlett flies up into the sky, staring at the sun as the end credits roll.
