The Shining

In “The Shining,” Jack Torrance, a writer and recovering alcoholic, accepts a new position as the off-season caretaker of the Overlook Hotel in the Colorado Rockies. He brings along his wife Wendy and young son Danny, who has psychic abilities known as “the shining.” The family becomes snowbound in the hotel due to a winter storm. Danny’s imaginary friend Tony warns him that the hotel is haunted. Jack’s sanity deteriorates under the influence of the hotel and its residents, and he becomes increasingly violent. When Katharine has a stillborn child, Robert is approached by a priest at the hospital who suggests that they take a healthy newborn whose mother has just died in childbirth. Without telling his wife he agrees. After relocating to London, strange events - and the ominous warnings of a priest - lead him to believe that the child he took from that Italian hospital is evil incarnate.

To get it, Ted delves into the story of the Lorax once the gruff guardian of the forest, and the Once-ler who let greed overtake his respect for nature.
