In “The Shining,” Jack Torrance, a writer and recovering alcoholic, accepts a new position as the off-season caretaker of the Overlook Hotel in the Colorado Rockies. He brings along his wife Wendy and young son Danny, who has psychic abilities known as “the shining.” The family becomes snowbound in the hotel due to a winter storm.
