Sifu
The video game developed and published by Sloclap tells a story of revenge set in modern-day China. It follows the student of a martial arts school’s master (Sifu) as he seeks to avenge the murder of his mentor. The twist, however, is that thanks to a magical talisman, each time our hero dies, he’s resurrected, but the price paid is that he ages with every use. And should he become too old too fast, his death shall become permanent, and his quest unfulfilled. Within the first three weeks of the game’s 2022 release, Sifu sold over 1 million units.

Kaiju No. 8
Kaiju No. 8 is set in a world in which monsters named kaiju regularly cause disasters. Japan has the highest rate of kaiju attacks in the world, therefore in order to combat them it establishes the Japanese Anti-Kaiju Defense Force (JAKDF).[a] Kaiju are assigned a "fortitude level"—a scale indicating their overall strength, and are classified as honju—more dangerous, stronger kaiju, and yoju—smaller kaiju that can accompany or sprout off from honju. Kaiju that have high fortitude levels or abnormal characteristics are given a number as an identifier based on when they first appear, and are classified as daikaiju. Defense Force officers wear powered suits made from kaiju remains that grant them increased strength, speed, and durability. The suits have a total power output, measured in the form of a percentage (referred to as "unleashed combat power"), which varies from person to person (depending on their ability), with a maximum of 100%. The suits also influence how strong an officer's weapons are.

The Boxer
While searching for a final prodigy to train, legendary boxing coach K stumbles across a bewildering scene―an apathetic teenager simply standing still as his bullies throttle him. But Coach K sees more than this, sees the precision, grace, and uncanny perceptiveness in the boy’s movements. He knows right away that this is the fighter he’s been waiting for. Yet when he tries to recruit him, the boy with the lifeless eyes only asks one question: “Is it any fun? Hitting people…Is it fun?”

Deus Ex
The Deus Ex series is set in a dystopian future where secretive organizations vie for global control amidst rapid technological advancements and societal upheaval. In the prequels, Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, players follow Adam Jensen, a security specialist who undergoes mechanical augmentation after a catastrophic attack. Jensen becomes embroiled in conflicts between powerful corporations, the Illuminati, and augmented rights groups, all while confronting ethical dilemmas surrounding human enhancement. The original Deus Ex introduces JC Denton, a nano-augmented agent of UNATCO in 2052, tasked with combating terrorism but soon uncovering conspiracies involving the Gray Death pandemic and factions like Majestic 12. His choices lead to multiple possible outcomes, including the collapse of global communications or merging with an AI to impose a new world order. Deus Ex: Invisible War, set two decades later, features Alex D, a clone of Denton, navigating a world still reeling from previous events, where various factions, including remnants of the Illuminati and a Denton-led group, vie for dominance. Throughout the series, players' decisions critically influence the narrative, exploring themes of control, freedom, and the ethical implications of human augmentation.

Anthem
In the world of Anthem, humanity resides within fortified cities on the planet Coda, protected by Freelancers—elite pilots operating advanced exosuits known as Javelins. These suits enable them to combat threats emerging from ancient, powerful artifacts left by a godlike race called the Shapers. Central to the game's narrative is the Anthem of Creation, a mysterious force that the Shapers attempted to harness, resulting in an unfinished and volatile world. A decade prior to the game's events, the Dominion, a militaristic faction from the north, attempted to control a Shaper relic called the Cenotaph, leading to a catastrophic event known as the Heart of Rage. In the present, the Dominion, led by the Monitor, seeks to exploit the Anthem's power once more. Players, as Freelancers, must thwart the Monitor's plans, stabilize the Heart of Rage, and protect humanity from the ensuing chaos.

The Ascent
In the cyberpunk world of Veles, players assume the role of an indentured worker within the massive arcology of The Ascent Group. Following the sudden and mysterious collapse of this megacorporation, the arcology plunges into chaos as rival factions and corporations vie for control. Amidst the turmoil, the protagonist must navigate through hostile districts, confront various syndicates, and uncover the truth behind The Ascent Group's downfall. As the narrative unfolds, it is revealed that the corporation's collapse was linked to a secret project aimed at developing a teleportation device, which inadvertently led to catastrophic consequences. Ultimately, the player strives to restore stability to the arcology, prevent further disasters, and secure their own independence in a world where corporate power dictates fate.

Ghostrunner
In the Ghostrunner series, players assume the role of Jack, a cybernetically enhanced warrior navigating a dystopian, post-apocalyptic world. In the first installment, following a global catastrophe known as the Burst, humanity's remnants reside within Dharma Tower. Jack awakens with no memory and is guided by the Architect, an AI representing the tower's creator, Adam. Tasked with overthrowing the tyrannical Keymaster, Mara, who seized control through a coup, Jack battles through the tower, ultimately confronting and defeating both Mara and the Architect to liberate the remaining inhabitants. In Ghostrunner 2, set after the fall of the Architect and the Keymaster, Dharma Tower descends into chaos as various factions vie for dominance. Jack collaborates with the Climbers, a rebel group, to establish a governing council. A new threat emerges from the Asura, the original Ghostrunners who have resurfaced under the leadership of Mitra. Jack's journey leads him beyond Dharma Tower into the desolate Outside, where he uncovers the origins of the Ghostrunners and confronts Mitra to prevent the annihilation of the tower's inhabitants. After defeating Mitra, Jack decides to leave Dharma Tower to discover his own identity.
