Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes (1984) - Alternate Cast
This movie sits in a kind of ill-defined space. It’s certainly not what anyone would call a “classic,” but on the other hand, it is well enough known among fans of the character and tends to be ranked as one of the best adaptations. One thing that’s for sure is that it has a stellar cast. So I thought, as a challenge, what if none of these stars had been available back in ‘84? Who would you have called?
Legacy of a Lawman
I just finished this excellent historical Western and kept thinking the whole time what a great movie it would make. So in a perfect world, here’s who I would cast.
Cowboys & Aliens (2011) - Alternate Cast
This movie has a really solid cast, almost a dream cast for such an odd film. So I thought it would be a fun challenge to see if we could think of anyone from the same era who could rival this bunch.
Tall Tale (1965)
This movie has such an old-fashioned feel, it makes me wonder what it might have looked like if it had come out 30 years later, during a heyday for both Westerns and Disney.
Civil War Epic
It’s probably the most dramatic chapter in American history and yet it’s pretty still rare to see a movie or a series depicting the real-life figures involved in the American Civil War. Who do you think would have been the perfect actors, from any generation, to play these epic characters?
Frost/Nixon (1977)
What if the classic political drama had come out the same year the famous interviews took place?
Excalibur with The Lord of the Rings actors
Exactly the crossover we need.
Lethal Weapon Series (1987-‘98) Alternate Cast
It’s my favorite movie series and a big reason it’s so special is how amazing the cast is. So I thought it would be an interesting challenge to see how close we could get to replicating the magic with alternate choices from the same era.
Let’s Compare Track Records
We all know that some actors are like a sign post. Just knowing that a certain actor is in something can give you a good idea whether it’s likely to be good or bad. This list is not so much about talent, although that obviously plays a part too. It’s more about how many quality movies you’ve seen someone in and how likely you’ll be to check out another. No limits on genre or time period. Let’s just talk about whose track records are the most impressive and most disappointing.
A Man for All Seasons
Let’s add a touch of class to this place with a Best Picture winner adapted from a Robert Bolt play. This historical drama provides rich opportunity for some great actors to demonstrate their craft. In a perfect world, who would you cast in these parts?
The Seven-Per-Cent Solution
Sherlock Holmes visits Sigmund Freud in Austria hoping to treat his cocaine addiction and finds himself embroiled in a Continental kidnapping case.
Most Epic Facial Hair
Who’s had the most fantastic famous facial follicles of them all? Appearance, cultural impact, whatever you want to judge by, who’s the all-time winner? I want to make one caveat: real people only.
Classic Christmas Characters
In honour of the holiday, who do you think should have played all the characters most often associated with the most wonderful time of the year? Feel free to add anyone you think of.
The Lost World (1960s)
The ‘60s would have been the perfect era for an adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s adventure classic. But who would you have cast back then?
The Ghost and the Darkness (1976)
The same classic adventure movie if it came out 20 years earlier.
