Zatanna Zatara (born on May, the 20th 1996) is a magician, Jake Thompson, Michael Green and Katie "Pidge" Holt's childhood friend and currently an ally of the Justice Avengers. She is the daughter of Giovanni Zatara and Danny Núñez's love interest and current girlfriend.
Physical Appearance
A teenage girl with Italian roots, Zatanna has medium length black hair and bright cyan colored eyes with a slender build, and fair skin. Her magic allows her to change her clothing quickly. She wears a white single-breasted shirt with a tie (either white bow tie or a black bolo tie), a black jacket and a black skirt. Her other, more casual outfit is a pair of white or black pants with a light violet or dark red top and white or black shoes. She also wears white earrings.
On her first mission, she used a feminine variation of her father's costume, with a white shirt, bow tie and gloves, a low cut yellow vest, a black blazer, black mini-shorts with gray stockings and black boots reaching midway up her calves. Overtime, she has grown a little bit taller and gained a curvaceous figure. Her mission attire is more alluring and her hair became wavier with strands hanging over her ears to frame her face
Personality
Zatanna has a rebellious nature: she has snuck out of the house multiple times with a duplication spell, and suggested that the Justice Avengers "kidnap" her to cover up her willing involvement in tracking down the missing Red Tornado. She is also quite comfortable with Green Panther's flirting, and has a quirky habit of removing prefixes from words. Her love for Danny is stronger than her sense of duty, as she broke away from the mission in an attempt to save Danny from falling after Loki attacked him. She is compassionate and trusting towards others.
Zatanna also demonstrated herself to be a loyal friend to Jake and supportive towards his mentorship program with Marinette. As mentioned by Jake, she also helped Mayhem Bug out with some advice herself.
Powers and Abilities
Powers
Magic: Zatanna has a natural affinity for the mystic arts, and is able to manipulate magic in many ways and forms. Imitating her father's spellcasting, she says her incantations backwards. She can also lay enchantments on objects (e.g., producing glamour charms via a physio-morphic spell) and sense when certain levels of mystic forces are at play. Although she can accomplish many things with enough preparation and energy, there does exist limits to her magical abilities; for example, Zatanna affirmed that she doesn't have the power to raise the dead.
Abilities
Multilingualism: In addition to English, Zatanna can speak Italian and some high school French.
Hand-to-hand combatant: Although Zatanna had very minimal hand-to-hand skills by the time she fought Harm, she has since trained with Black Canary and can now better hold her own.
Weaknesses
Concentration: When saying a magic spell, Zatanna must concentrate fully in order to say and perform it correctly or else the spell simply won't work. Sometimes making small errors will interfere with the performance.
Relationships
Danny Núñez / Green Panther: Their bond is intense, full of comfortable flirtation and pure magnetism. Danny, with his zen focus and panther energy, is the only one who can make Zatanna focus when nanoviruses or illusions disrupt her spells. She is so devoted to him that she risked the entire mission against Loki just to catch him when he fell.
Jake Thompson / Chargeshock: Her childhood friend and a trusted anchor. Zatanna deeply respects his vision and actively supports his mentoring program with Marinette. She is like a spiritual "big sister" to the bunker, offering valuable advice when the multiversal pressure becomes too much.
Katie "Pidge" Holt & Michael Green: The other two childhood friends. With Michael, she shares quick banter on skateboards, and with Pidge, she collaborates to combine Altean alchemy and laptop codes with her mystical force sensors.
Sally Gómez / Ghoststrike: Although Sally was initially skeptical of Zatanna's rebellious approach, the two developed a solid mutual respect after training together.
Trivia
Zatanna has a habit of hiding glamour charms in Max's muffins to change their fluorescent green color to normal shades when Dennis gets too angry.
Her favorite word, modified by removing the prefix, is "whelmed" (instead of overwhelmed or underwhelmed), an inside joke she often shares with Jake.
She keeps an old photo from elementary school on her New York nightstand of her, Jake, Michael, and Pidge building a fort out of cardboard boxes in Derrick's garage.
Although she was educated in a strict Catholic high school, she continues to use duplication spells to fake attendance at Sunday classes, just so she can skate around Manhattan with the boys.
