Biography
Born in London and of South Asian decent, Tehmina was an over achiever at school in Academics and the Arts alike. In her early teens she received a scholarship to further continue her talent for the Violin & Viola, where she performed for the late Queen Elizabeth II. She was known to be somewhat of a tomboy growing up. Not only was she the only female in the High School Basket Ball team, competing against neighboring schools, but when her friends went to ballet, she trained rigorously in Martial Arts, specializing in Tae Kwon Do and Sankukai Karate. She appreciated the respect and discipline she learnt from the two styles, which led her to compete in nationwide competitions in England, where she won a plethora of medals and awards.
Sunny attended the University of Leeds in England, where she studied Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science. This combined with marketing and business studies earned her a Bachelor of Science degree with honors. After graduating, she was quickly plucked to join Richard Branson's Virgin corporation, setting up a new arm for the entity.
Sunny came to a realization that her passion for the Arts was still yearning and unknown to herself, she was about to embark on a new journey as an actor. Unsure where to begin, she asked one of her childhood friends if she could attend an acting class with her. The seed was sown where Sunny worked relentlessly to attend the Lee Strasberg Institute and other acting institutes in Los Angeles. With no acting experience, she was accepted to be mentored by teachers who were previous students of Strasberg himself. This was also the start of her transition to LA.
Sunny's career took off in the Oscar winning movie 'Children of Men', directed by Alfonso Cuaron with Michael Caine, Clive Owen & Julianne Moore. 'Argo' with Ben Affleck soon followed for which she shared a SAG Award win in the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble cast in a motion picture category.
On the small screen, Sunny has portrayed a retrospective of memorable characters in productions including, CBS's Training Day with the late Bill Paxton, NCIS, CSI, FOX's 24: Live Another Day & The Following with Kevin Bacon. Aaron Sorkin's The Newsroom on HBO, ABC's Mistresses, CW's Sci-fi show Pandora, NBC's Primetime show, 'Chicago Med' & Netflix's glossy legal drama 'Partner Track'.
In 2022 Sunny took the helm as an Exec producer with several TV projects underway with her producing partner. Their aim, to develop and work with unvoiced writers, pushing the needle forward on cutting edge projects that tell meaningful stories.
When not working, Sunny is an avid fitness fiend, who loves running and lifting weights. Her passion to travel the world and be enthralled within cultures has been important to her since her teens. She has hiked the Himalayan Mountains and camped at base camp of Mount Everest. She has dived in the Red Sea to complete her PADI certification. She has a flare for adventure. Sunny is a strong supporter for organizations specializing in Cancer research and treatments. She spends time researching alternative therapies to be combined with conventional medicine, assisting and spending time with cancer patients. She lives between Los Angeles and London.
