SKYWALKER ASTROMECH CRITICAL SCREAM

About
More Photos

This is a Skywalker Sound sound effect. It was used extensively for R2-D2 as his trademark scream in the Star Wars franchise since it debuted in Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977). Performed by 4 time Oscar™️ winning sound designer Ben Burtt, he created this scream by recording it with his voice underneath his desk in the corner down inside the basement at George Lucas' house. Burtt stated: "I had a room in George Lucas' house where their offices were, but I was down in the basement. When I wanted to record something — I didn't have a recording booth – I used to get under a big table down in the room where I worked, with a microphone, and kind of curl up in a corner. And one day, I just made a scream. I just screamed. Maybe there was some stress behind it. That scream, sped up, is used pretty much straight up as R2-D2's scream."
