Sarabi is a fictional character from Disney's 1994 animated feature film, The Lion King. She is an African lioness who was the mate and queen (later widow) of Mufasa, mother of Simba, mother-in-law of Nala, and paternal grandmother of Kiara and Kion. As the queen of Pride Rock, she is shown to be in charge of all the lionesses and their hunting parties whose duties are to hunt for food for their pride until Scar usurped the throne of Pride Rock with the aid of a legion of hyenas after killing Mufasa in secret. When Simba returned to rightfully reclaim the throne, Sarabi was joined by Sarafina (her second-in-command and Nala's mother), Nala, and the other lionesses in full support of her son and fought against Scar's legions. After overthrowing Scar and his tyrannical rule, Simba ascended to the throne as king of Pride Rock with Nala becoming his queen and the new leader of the pride's hunting parties all the while Sarabi became the queen mother.
