Ranbir Raj

Ranbir Raj, also known as Rajkumar Saxena, is the protagonist of the 1955 Indian Hindi film "Shree 420," directed by Raj Kapoor. He is a poor but educated orphan from Allahabad who travels to Bombay (now Mumbai) with dreams of success. Ranbir Raj is initially characterized by his honesty and integrity, which are symbolized by a gold medal he received for being the most honest and truthful boy in his school. His naivety and idealism make him vulnerable to the corrupting influences of the city. Upon arriving in Bombay, Ranbir Raj is seduced by the allure of wealth and success, leading him to adopt a dishonest lifestyle. He transforms from an honest young man into a confidence trickster, or "420," who cheats and deceives others. Despite his fall from grace, Ranbir Raj ultimately seeks redemption and tries to right his wrongs.
