Onestar was a leader of WindClan in the lake territories. Onekit was born to Wrenflight and Stagleap with his sisters, Ashfoot and Morningflower. He was apprenticed as Onepaw to WindClan's deputy Deadfoot. Onepaw trained with two kittypets, Brushpaw and Tansypaw, who introduced Onepaw to the nearby Twolegplace. Onepaw began sharing dramatized tales of his heroism to the other kittypets, including earning the admiration of Smoke. He eventually earned his warrior name, Onewhisker and came to believe that kittypets could never become warriors after Brushpaw's death and Tansypaw returning to her Twolegs.
Onewhisker befriended Fireheart after the ThunderClan warrior helped bring WindClan back to the forest following their exile. Onewhisker also mentored Whitetail and Gorsepaw, though Gorsepaw was killed by Tigerstar. Following the battle against BloodClan, Onewhisker and Whitetail became mates. Onewhisker broke ties with Smoke, though she soon revealed she was expecting kits. With the Clans' territory under threat by Twolegs, Onewhisker turned his back on Smoke and their only surviving son Darkkit, promising that he'll return one day. When the Clans reached the lake following the Great Journey, Tallstar renamed Onewhisker his deputy over Mudclaw. Mudclaw was furious and led a rebellion against Onewhisker; however, Mudclaw and his followers lost. Thereafter, Onewhisker received his nine lives with the name of Onestar and made Ashfoot his deputy. Wanting to prove himself to his Clan, he turned his back on Firestar and their friendship.
He and Whitetail had two daughters, Heatherkit and Galekit, though Galekit was stillborn. Following the Great Battle, Onestar made Harespring his deputy and defended the former Dark Forest trainees. Growing fearful that his son Darktail was coming to destroy his Clan, Onestar turned WindClan away from the other Clans. Eventually, Onestar revealed the truth about Darktail's parentage. At first not wanting to fight against Darktail, he eventually aided with the Clans with one final battle against the Kin. He and Darktail drowned each other, and Onestar ascended to StarClan soon after. He granted Harespring one of his nine lives. Onestar later helped defeat Ashfur by allying with living cats and cats from the Dark Forest.
