Nina Mazursky, also known as Mermaid, is a scientist and an agent of S.H.A.D.E. who operates with the Creature Commandos lead by Frankenstein. Her father is Professor Mazursky, one of the leading scientists in Project M that created the Creature Commandos. Her powers and monstrous appearance are similar to that of the movie monster "Creature from the Black Lagoon." She was added to the Creature Commandos as part of the New 52 reboot, replacing their previous female character Medusa. Nina Mazursky was created by Jeff Lemire and Ibraim Roberson, originally appearing as part of the Flashpoint Timeline in Flashpoint: Frankenstein and the Creatures of the Unknown #1 (2011).
