Nala is a fictional character from Disney's 1994 animated feature film, The Lion King. She is an African lioness who is the mate and queen of Simba, daughter of Sarafina, daughter-in-law of Mufasa and Sarabi, mother of Kiara and Kion, and mother-in-law of Kovu and Rani. As a cub, Nala was betrothed to Simba, the prince heir of Pride Rock. The two were best friends throughout their cubhood. However, they were separated for many years when Scar attempted to kill Simba and, believing he had succeeded, lied to the pride that Simba was dead, leaving her heartbroken. Later, when the Pride Lands fell into disarray under Scar's tyranny, Nala sought to find help outside the kingdom. During the course of her search, she met Simba, now fully-grown, and the two shared a delighted reunion. She urged him to reclaim his birthright, and though he resisted at first, he eventually returned to the Pride Lands to do so. There, Nala fought alongside her pride against Scar and his legions, and, upon their victory, welcomed Simba as their new king. The two then became the king and queen of Pride Rock, with Kiara slated to assume the throne after Simba.
