Mr. Salt is a fictional character first introduced in Roald Dahl's children's book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and its adapted media. He is a wealthy businessman who is the owner of Salt's Nuts, a business that sells shelled peanuts other than being a husband and father, the later of whom is named Veruca.
Mr. Salt spoils his only daughter with his wife, whom he gives everything she wants, even to the most ludicrous that are not for sale all the while is never thanked by Veruca for being given what she wants.
When the contest to find a Golden Ticket for a tour of Willy Wonka's chocolate factory is announced, he buys numerous boxes of Wonka bars to find a Golden Ticket for Veruca when she demands to have one. Mr. Salt and his daughter are the third contestants to be disqualified from the tour of Willy Wonka's chocolate factory when she is denied a squirrel that shells walnuts in the factory's Nut Sorting Room.
In the 1971 film, Mr. Salt is shown to be very weak-willed around his daughter's temper tantrums all the while caving in under her demands of what she wants whenever, wherever and is also very closeminded throughout the tour of the factory where Willy Wonka shows and tells them about how things work in his factory all the while Mr. Salt dismissively blurts out "Stuff and nonsense."
