Mayrie was a little girl who lived in a village near the Laughing Valley of Hohaho. She and her younger brother traveled to the Valley to ask Santa Claus for toys. At the time Claus had only one, which he gave to Mayrie's brother. Then he offered the girl a carving he had made of Shiegra the lioness. Mayrie was terrified by it, but Claus calmed her and carved a new toy cat for her on the spot. After that, Claus no longer made toys from the fiercer animals, but based his carvings on rabbits, deer, squirrels, and lambs.
When Mayrie broke her toy cat, she came to Claus again and he gave her his first baby doll, modeled after Bessie Blithesome.
