More PhotosMaggie Evans is a character from the American gothic soap opera Dark Shadows (1966-1971). Initially a waitress at the Collinsport Inn coffee shop, she was kidnapped by Barnabas Collins as he attempted to re-create her into his lost love, Josette, whom she greatly resembled. After she escaped from Barnabas, she was hidden and treated in Windcliff Sanitarium, as she had lost her mind. Eventually, Maggie escaped Windcliff (with the aid of the ghost of Sarah Collins), regained her sanity, but forgot everything about her time as Barnabas's prisoner thanks to hypnosis from Dr. Julia Hoffman (now working with Barnabas, seeking a cure for his vampirisim). At some point, she became engaged to her boyfriend Joe Haskell. However, the two broke up after Joe was made a psychic slave of Angelique (now a vampire), with Joe eventually going insane and being committed to Windcliff himself after discovering his cousin was a werewolf. Her home destroyed, her boyfriend gone, and her father dead by this point, Maggie took the job of governess at Collinwood - and the lodging that came with it.
