The Mad Hatter is the criminal alias used by Jervis Tetch, an enemy of Batman who uses mind-controlling hats. He is a delusional mental patient in Arkham Asylum nearby Gotham City, obsessed with Lewis Carroll's novel Alice in Wonderland and naming himself after one of the main characters. He has been a member of the Secret Society of Super-Villains, the Secret Six and the Wonderland Gang.
Mad Hatter was created by Lew Sayre Schwartz and Bill Finger, first appearing in Batman #49 (1948).
