Johnathan Sturgess is a Chicago-based animator, filmmaker, creator, and music artist whose work centers on imagination, teamwork, and representation. As a neurodivergent Black creator, he brings a unique perspective to storytelling and world-building through animation and original creative projects.
Johnathan is the creator of the animated series Unstoppable, where he develops original characters and stories inspired by superheroes, collaboration, and the power of working together. His work focuses on building worlds where audiences from all backgrounds can see themselves reflected in heroic roles.
Before focusing on animation, Johnathan appeared in the short films Drawing John and Ice Cream, gaining early experience in film performance and storytelling. In 2021, he began animating his own stories and expanded his work into directing and independent animation production.
His work has earned recognition within the film community. Johnathan is a two-time nominated actor and the recipient of Best Young Director in Film Animation at the 5th Annual Nova Star Awards (2025).
Through animation, filmmaking, and music, Johnathan continues developing new creative projects while expanding the world of Unstoppable, creating stories that celebrate creativity, courage, and the power of working together.
