Joe Haskell

Joe Haskell is a character from the American gothic soap opera Dark Shadows (1966-1971). He worked for the Collins fishing fleet, first as a fisherman and then as a checker. First shown to be in a relationship with childhood friend Carolyn Stoddard, he eventually began dating Maggie Evans, and the duo was later engaged. Unfortunately, Joe was bitten by the vampire Angelique and forced to do her bidding as her psychic slave. This lead to a breakup with Maggie, a suicide attempt, and an attempted attack on Barnabas Collins's life (driven by Angelique's hold on him). Although Joe seemed to be rebounding from all this nicely, he eventually snapped after finding out his cousin, Chris Jennings, was a werewolf and watching him transform. Joe then attempted to abduct Chris's younger sister, Amy, so that he could protect her from both the secret and the monster her brother became after transformation. He was taken into police custody after the frightened girl managed to run back to Collinwood, and was sedated by Doctor Julia Hoffman in an effort to calm him. However, all the sedative did was bring him horrific nightmares - and the revelation that not only was Chris a werewolf, but Chris's brother, Tom, had died after becoming a vampire. With everything being too much for his mind to handle, the sedative did not work; Joe awoke as a terrified wreck, and was carted off to Windcliff Sanitarium.
