Born on May 19, 1974, in Chongqing, Jin Zhang (also known as Max Zhang) is an acclaimed Chinese martial artist and actor who transitioned from a national wushu champion to a leading action star. He began his cinematic career in the late 1990s as a stunt double for major stars like Zhang Ziyi and Michelle Yeoh in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) before earning critical recognition as a screen actor, most notably winning Best Supporting Actor at the 33rd Hong Kong Film Awards for his role as Ma San in The Grandmaster (2013). Zhang gained widespread international fame for portraying Wing Chun master Cheung Tin-chi in Ip Man 3 (2015) and its 2018 spin-off Master Z: Ip Man Legacy, and he has since starred in global productions such as Pacific Rim: Uprising (2018) and Escape Plan: The Extractors (2019).
