Jadis is a fictional character created by C.S. Lewis in 1950 first introduced in The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe as its main antagonist and later prequel The Magician's Nephew in the The Chronicles of Narnia series. She is commonly referred to as the White Witch throughout the first book as she froze the lands of Narnia in the Hundred Years Winter. Jadis was born on an unknown date centuries or millennia ago before the creation of Narnia. She was the last Queen of Charn, a city in an entirely different world from Narnia and Earth where she was the last of a long line of kings and queens in her native world. A powerful sorceress, Jadis fought a bloody war of rebellion against her sister where on the point of defeat, she spoke the Deplorable Word, a very powerful spell that destroyed all life on Charn, except herself and put herself in an enchanted sleep afterwards in hopes to await someone that could free her from her world.
