Over a decade latter Ja was brought back as a recombinant, a cloned avatar-na'vi-body, alongside eleven other SecOps-soliders Miles Quaritch, Lyle Wainfleet, Sean Fike, Mansk, Prager, Lopez, Zdinarsik, Brown, Zhang, Walker and Warren
He, alongside the other recombinants, was present at the briefing of Miles Quaritch, where he told them that they had been tasked in taking down Jake Sully, who was opposing RDA-operations with guerrilla-tactics. After being equipped at Bridgehead-City, he and the others were sent to the Hallelujah Mountains, where Sully was suspected hiding. Due to being na'vi, it was hoped that they would be undetected by Eywa's natural response, which was triggered by human presence
The recoms traveled to the Hallelujah Mountains. Being in na'vi-bodies, the natural response of Eywa did not attack the soldiers. Despite this, Ja was notably annoyed by the insects which still sometimes stung the soldiers
The team found the Site 26 where Sully and Neytiri killed Quaritch, during which Ja secured the surrounding area. He later also took part in capture of the Sully-children and Spider Socorro, Quaritch's biological son that was adopted by the enemy, and survived the counter-attack of Jake Sully. He was among the seven recoms that retread to General Frances Ardmore's gunship Quaritch guessed that the Sullies had gone underground and decided that the remaining recoms would adopt to the manners of the na'vi in order to fight them. This began with taming a banshee-mount, which could be used as an aerial transport. With the help of a now-recruited Spider, Ja and the other recombs traveled to the Banshee Rookery where each of the seven remaining troopers each tamed one these creatures
