The guards are the security of Far Far Away and are charged with maintaining order and security in the kingdom. In Shrek 2, the knights loyally serve King Harold even after he is returned to his frog form by a shot from the Fairy Godmother that was intended for Shrek. However, in Shrek the Third, when the latter dies, the guards immediately serve their new king, Prince Charming after he had taken over the kingdom with the army of villains that was on his side during the invasion of the kingdom of Far Far Away.
