Godzilla is an ancient hybrid monster with the DNA of various dinosaurs and reptiles. He was created by a race of aliens attempting to colonize the planet during the late Cretaceous period. Godzilla was made to protect the aliens as well as Earth. However, the mass extinction of the dinosaurs killed all the aliens, but Godzilla went into hibernation. Godzilla was briefly awakened by the bombings of World War II and again during a 1968 bombing test in the Moruroa Atoll of French Polynesia. Godzilla finally awakens again 30 years later in 1998.
