Following a devastating psychological breakdown caused by an encounter with the near-omnipotent Beyonders, the High Evolutionary became radically obsessed with the stagnation of Earth’s gene pool. Believing that humanity was on an inevitable path to genetic dead ends and extinction, he determined that the only way to save the planet was to forcibly accelerate the evolutionary cycle of all living things. Operating from his advanced base on Mount Wundagore, the High Evolutionary engineered a massive, high-tech army composed of specialized battalions: **The Purifiers** (tasked with eliminating "evolutionary failures"), **The Gatherers** (assigned to harvest genetic material), and **The Eliminators** (sent to destroy any technology or factions that threatened his grand design). The war was fought globally and covertly across multiple fronts: * **The Subterranean Purge:** The High Evolutionary targeted the underground races of Earth (such as the Moloids and Lava Men), seeking to sterilize them to prevent "unworthy" genetics from spreading. * **The Drug War Intervention:** Recognizing narcotics as a chemical poison degrading human DNA, his forces targeted global drug cartels. This briefly aligned his goals with the vigilante Punisher, though the brutal methods of the Evolutionary's forces quickly turned them into enemies. * **Cosmic & Inhuman Harvesting:** He attempted to steal the Inhumans' sacred Terrigen Mists and isolate the cosmic signatures of beings like the Silver Surfer to weaponize mutagenic properties. * **The Mutant Threat Suppression:** Fearing that unregulated mutant evolution would tear the planet apart before his design could be completed, his Purifiers engaged the X-Men, X-Factor, and the New Mutants to suppress or catalog their abilities. ### THE ULTIMATE PLOT & DEFEAT The ultimate objective of the campaign was the deployment of a massive **Genetic Bomb** calculated to alter the DNA of every living organism on Earth, forcibly advancing the human race by a million years in a single instant. Such a sudden cosmic shift would have resulted in the deaths of billions unable to survive the immediate mutation. The war culminated at the High Evolutionary's undersea base. A reserve roster of Avengers, alongside the cosmic powerhouse Hercules, infiltrated the stronghold. Using the High Evolutionary's own hyper-evolutionary chamber, the Avengers artificially evolved Hercules into a godlike being of pure energy. Hercules engaged the High Evolutionary in a cataclysmic battle, matching his cosmic scale. The resulting release of energy destabilized the Evolutionary's armor and trapped both entities in a localized pocket dimension, de-escalating the genetic bomb and ending the global threat. ### POWERS, ABILITIES & WEAPONRY * **Hyper-Advanced Genetic Engineering:** The forces used advanced mutagenic darts, genetic suppressors, and tracking systems tailored to target specific super-powered DNAs. * **The Purifier Armor:** Elite shock troops were equipped with localized forcefields, energy blasters, and heavy armor designed to withstand standard superhuman physical attacks. * **The Evolutionary Chamber:** A device capable of rewriting the evolutionary code of a target in seconds, scaling an individual anywhere from a prehistoric state to a cosmic entity.
