Elizabeth Barnard Medina is a character in the 1961 film The Pit and the Pendulum. She is the sister of Francis Barnard, who travels to Spain to investigate her mysterious death. Elizabeth's husband, Nicholas Medina, tells Francis that she died of a rare blood disorder. However, Francis discovers that Nicholas's mother may have been buried alive, and he begins to suspect that Elizabeth met the same fate. Francis investigates and is shocked by what he finds. The story takes place in 1547 Spain in the castle of Nicholas Medina, which was used for torture during the Spanish Inquisition. Elizabeth is played by Barbara Steele.
