Electro (Maxwell "Max" Dillon) (/ɪˈlɛktroʊ/) is a fictional supervillain appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Debuting in The Amazing Spider-Man #9 (Feb. 1964) as an adversary to the superhero Spider-Man, he has since endured becoming one of the web slinger's most common foes, making him part of the hero's rogues' gallery. He has come into conflict with other heroes, most notably Daredevil. In the comics, Electro is a former lineman for an electric company who turned to a life of crime after being struck by lightning while working on a power line and becoming a living electric capacitor. Electro is one of the founding members of the supervillain team Sinister Six, and the leader of the first incarnation of the Emissaries of Evil. A woman named Francine Frye becomes Dillon's successor as Electro after his death in The Amazing Spider-Man vol. 4 #17 (Oct. 2016). The character has been substantially adapted from comics into various forms of media, including films, television series, and video games. Electro made his cinematic debut in 2014's The Amazing Spider-Man 2, where he was portrayed by Jamie Foxx, who will reprise the role as a different incarnation of the character in the third Spider-Man film set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In 2009, he was ranked as IGN's 87th Greatest Comic Book Villain of All Time.[2]
