Kent Nelson was a powerful sorcerer and the first Doctor Fate, a legacy of heroes in the realm of magic who act as agents of the Lords of Order in the battle against chaos, using the powerful Amulet of Anubis, Cloak of Destiny and Helmet of Fate. The son of archeologist Sven Nelson, Kent Nelson's life changed from a chance encounter with the Nabu and killed his father when releasing Nabu from suspended animation. Taking pity on the young boy, Nabu alters the boy's grief and makes him his student of magic. When his training was completed, he gave Kent the famed artifacts, making him the powerful hero Doctor Fate. Nelson would be a founding member of the All-Star Squadron, the Justice Society, and was a member of both the Justice League and Justice League Dark. Originally, he would later be succeeded by Eric Strauss and Linda Strauss in his role as Doctor Fate, and after Flashpoint, he would be succeeded by his grand-nephew, Khalid Nassour. Kent Nelson was created by Gardner Fox and Howard Sherman, first appearing in More Fun Comics #55 (1940).
