The game is the sixth main entry in the Dead or Alive fighting series. It was released for PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One on March 1, 2019, and was also released in the Arcades in Japan on July 18, 2019. Running on a new engine, the game offers new features and introduces new mechanics. Dead or Alive 6 received mixed reviews from critics, who praised its polished gameplay, battle arenas, and its beginner-friendly tutorials, but criticized its multiplayer functions as well as the absence of online lobbies at launch. A free-to-play version of the game titled Dead or Alive 6: Core Fighters was released on March 15, 2019.
