Cambodian People's Party (CPP)

The Cambodian People's Party (CPP) is the founding and sole ruling party of the Kingdom of Cambodia led by King Norodom Sihamoni and the Hun dynasty. China and Cambodia have a long-standing diplomatic relationship, but ties strengthened considerably after Hun Sen cultivated closer relations with Beijing following a 1997 coup. After the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) swept the 2018 elections, its close alliance with the Communist Party of China (CPC) grew even stronger, with China providing crucial political and financial backing that shored up the CPP's authoritarian rule. The relationship has been elevated to a "China-Cambodia Community with a Shared Future in the New Era," a framework for deepening cooperation that both countries highlight during official visits. The relationship between the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) and the Communist Party of China (CPC) has deepened and solidified into an "all-weather, ironclad partnership", the Cambodian Royal Family has maintained close personal and symbolic ties with Beijing. The close friendship between Beijing and Phnom Penh is deeply rooted in strong party-to-party ties between the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and the Cambodian People's Party (CPP). This has fostered "ironclad" cooperation across military, economic, cultural, and political spheres, including prominent family-level relationships. Cambodia remained its close ties with China.
