Beru Lars

Beru Lars née Whitesun is a fictional character from Star Wars. First introduced in Episode IV: A New Hope, she is the wife of moisture farmer Owen Lars and paternal step-aunt of Luke Skywalker, the son of her husband's stepbrother, famed Jedi Knight and war hero Anakin Skywalker. Beru was born on the desert planet of Tatooine and came from a family of moisture farmers where she grew up near the spaceport city of Mos Eisley. While on a trip to Anchorhead, she met her future husband Owen, another moisture farmer and fell in love with him. Shortly before the outbreak of the Clone Wars, Beru would meet her beau's stepbrother, Anakin Skywalker for the first time after his mother (and Owen's stepmother), Shmi was kidnapped by a band of Tusken Raiders. Three years after the Clone Wars came to an end, she and Owen were married and became the guardians of Luke Skywalker after his birth, after his father turned to the dark side of the Force and became Darth Vader, but were told that Anakin died in battle instead. For 19 years, Beru raised her nephew like a son and would often defend him against her husband's harsh and domineering ways when he would refuse to allow Luke to follow his dreams by leaving the farm to attend the Imperial Academy with his best friend, Biggs Darklighter. She tried to convince Owen after a year that it was time to let Luke go and allow him to move on with his dreams, something he still refused to allow.
