Asteracanthus was a large, extinct genus of hybodont shark that lived during the Jurassic and Early Cretaceous periods. Known for its impressive size, reaching up to 2.5 meters (8.2 feet) in length, it was one of the largest sharks of its time. Asteracanthus possessed two dorsal fins, each with a prominent, ornamented spine, and a specialized dentition of over 150 teeth, indicating it was an active predator of a wide range of prey.
