Anna Leonidovna Kovalchuk (born June 15, 1977) is a celebrated Russian stage and film actress, honored as a People's Artist of Russia (2020). A graduate of the St. Petersburg Academy of Theatre, Music, and Cinema (1998), she has spent the majority of her career as a leading member of the Lensovet Theatre ensemble. Kovalchuk achieved massive nationwide fame for her portrayal of Inspector Maria Shvetsova in the long-running crime procedural Secrets of Investigation (Tayny Sledstviya), a role she has played since 2001. She is equally renowned for her critically acclaimed performance as Margarita in Vladimir Bortko’s 2005 miniseries adaptation of Mikhail Bulgakov's The Master and Margarita and for her role as Sofia Kolchak in the historical epic Admiral (2008). By late 2025, she remains one of Russia's most prominent television stars, continuing her work on the enduring Secrets of Investigation franchise while also appearing in fantasy projects such as Tales of the Dark Forest: The Sorceress (Skazki Tyomnogo Lesa.
