Born on September 24, 1955, in the village of Sogom, Aleksandr Bashirov is one of Russian cinema's most eccentric and recognizable "cult" figures. An actor, director, and screenwriter, Bashirov is often described as the "holy fool" of the screen, specializing in playing marginalized, unpredictable, and often absurd characters.
After graduating from VGIK (under Anatoly Vasiliev), he became an icon of the late-Soviet "New Wave" through his collaborations with directors like Sergei Solovyov and Rashid Nugmanov. Beyond acting, he founded the Deboshir Film Studio in St. Petersburg, a hub for independent and "marginal" cinema. Despite his reputation for playing underground outsiders, he has remained a prolific presence in mainstream Russian TV and high-budget fantasy through 2024 and 2025.
