Description of Beneath the Fluttering of His Wings:

In the 1920s, newly transferred police detective James Gordon is tasked with solving the mystery surrounding a recent string of grisly, possibly ritualistic, murders. When his investigation starts pointing upwards in the Gotham City social ladder, Gordon comes face to face with a terrifying secret society dedicated to bringing about a new age of darkness under the rule of the spirit of night. Vengeance made flesh. The cult of the Bat-Man.

  • nathanbates Conclusion: Gordon is ultimately unable to save Selina Kyle from the deranged vagrant carrying out the murders. Later identified as “Joe Chill”, the lunatic lets out that he is a mere pawn in a grander scheme before, bafflingly for Gordon, committing suicide under police supervision. Gordon’s investigation finally leads him to confront The Black Glove; an occult society made up of the oldest, wealthiest families in Gotham. Their leaders, the Arkhams, first encountered the cult of the bat from meetings with the indigenous Miagani people, who they subsequently slaughtered and stole their lands for the purposes of constructing a city which would also serve as an altar of sorts. The murders were part of an elaborate ritual coinciding with lunar cycles and the very architecture in which they were committed. As it turns out, the beast that is vengeance has already been conceived. All that’s left is for the blood of an innocent to be spilled. The blood of a good man. Gordon is the final sacrifice and it’s the Waynes that must pull the trigger.
