Story Plot

In 15th century Paris, Clopin the puppeteer tells the story of Quasimodo, the misshapen but gentle-souled bell ringer of Notre Dame, who was nearly killed as a baby by Claude Frollo, the Minister of Justice. But Frollo was forced by the Archdeacon of Notre Dame to raise Quasimodo as his own. Now a young man, Quasimodo is hidden from the world by Frollo in the belltower of the cathedral. But during the Festival of Fools, Quasimodo, cheered on by his gargoyle friends Victor, Hugo, and Laverne, decides to take part in the festivities, where he meets the lovely gypsy girl Esmeralda and the handsome soldier Phoebus. The three of them find themselves ranged against Frollo's cruelty and his attempts to destroy the home of the gypsies, the Court of Miracles. And Quasimodo must desperately defend both Esmeralda and the very cathedral of Notre Dame.

  • May I say, please read the book before making cast sugessions! I dont think most casting people have read the book. Most sugessions of actors for Quasimodo ,are way off..a lot of the actors are "small " men..hight ranging from 5'6" to 5' 9"..The book clearly states,"He looked like a Giant, that was broken and ill put together"..Quasimodo was immensely ,un naturally strong..that must be kept in mind..because of all the feats he does in the story..like knock out cold,2 guards,to save Esmeralda, toss people across the room ,that annoyed him, singlehandedly protect Esmeralda and Notre Dame Cathederal from attacking Vagabonds,by tossing a huge piece of wood that tokk 12 men to lift below..He kills his foster Brother Jehan, but grabing him by this legs(with one hand) and smashing his head against the wall ,crushing it..can you see any of the actors mentioned doing all of that? Also age, most all the characters ,are young..Frollo is only 36,Esmi is only 16,Quasi is shy of 20 ..Just saying to the casting ,and directors..try this time with the remake,to keep with the book, which is magnificent! Oh sorry Esmi does die in the end..
  • My applogies for typo errors, there is no edit option! :)
  • @belartful Maybe because the Victor Hugo novel is one the most overrated boring ass novels of all time. The book is way too god damn long, preachy, emotionally manipulative, incredibly pretentious and way too many characters. Quasimodo and Esmeralda aren't very likable in the book so when they died I didn't shed a tear nor did I give a damn (You want to feel sad when Quasimodo and Esmeralda die? You're not entitled to it. You have to earn it. Or if you want them survive and live happily ever after? You're not entitled to it. You have to earn it (Victor Hugo did write an opera called La Esmeralda which pretty much an alternate ending of the original Hunchback of Notre Dame novel which happens had Esmeralda. That ending also sucks because Esmeralda is not a likeable character). Also Claude Frollo in the book is a lame ass pussy villain and a joke. Not too mention Pierre Gringoire is annoying and an idiot.
