1986
In 1986, producer and lifelong Batman fan Michael E. Uslan was desperate to see a serious take on the beloved character hit the big screen. Comic book writer and artist Frank Miller was recruited to draft the darker story, focusing on an older Bruce Wayne coming out of retirement. Adam West, who had made history playing the character twenty years ago on television jumped at the opportunity to reprise the role. Uslan was hesitant but was quickly floored by West's dramatic acting as well as the emotional impact the story would now have. The Dark Knight Returns would go down as one of the greatest and most influential Batman stories of all time.
