Synopsis
Rambo: Next Blood is a 2024 American action film directed by John McTiernan and produced by Ted Kotcheff, who had directed First Blood in 1982. It is based on the character John Rambo created by author David Morrell for his novel First Blood, the sixth installment in the Rambo film series, and a direct sequel to Rambo III, ignoring Rambo and Rambo: Last Blood. The film stars Sylvester Stallone, who reprises his role as John Rambo, alongside Elizabeth Olsen, Robert Redford, Danny Glover, Lance Henrikson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Michelle Pfeiffer and Diane Keaton. It follows a widowed John Rambo, who lives with his daughter Lyla (Olsen) and cares for an ailing Sam Trautman (Crenna replaced by Redford respectively), reuniting with some old friends and fellow war veterans William Norman (Glover) and Zack Crane (Henrikson), as well as Norman's son Henry (Abdul-Mateen), and realizing that one of them is a terrorist. Rambo: Next Blood was released in Moscow, Russia on May 27th, 2024, and in the United States on June 6th. The film was widely acclaimed by critics, who highlighted the performances (particularly from Stallone, Olsen, Redford and Glover), action sequences, direction, tone, the emotional weight of the story, score, and cinematography, and called it the best Rambo film. It was also a box-office success, grossing over $1.137 billion worldwide, and became the highest grossing film in the series to-date. A sequel is currently in development, with Stallone set to return.
