A cynical, chain-smoking exorcist and con artist, John Constantine, discovers he is dying of a brain tumor and that his soul is damned to Hell for his past sins. When a demon begins systematically murdering psychics ("Watchers") across the globe, Constantine is drawn into the investigation alongside a skeptical detective, Angela Murdoch. As they uncover a satanic plot to bring about the Apocalypse, Constantine learns that the demon's ultimate goal is to build a staircase from Hell using the souls of those who could stop him. Forced to confront his greatest failure—a botched exorcism that sent a young girl's soul to Hell—Constantine must make the ultimate sacrifice to save humanity, trick the Devil himself, and hopefully, earn his own redemption.
