Richard Janus was a member of the Future Foundation specializing in alternative energy sources. And he believed that the key to that was the Negative Zone. But the experiments led to something terrible; a duplicate of Richard made of pure energy. According to Janus, this "Nega-Man" embodied all that was evil in him and with it's destruction, he assured the Fantastic Four that his experiments were over. But sometimes a bad copy isn't a bad copy... it just comes from bad stock.
