When the Tesseract opens a wormhole and Loki reaches earth, he steals the Tesseract to release an army of an aliens with which he can subjugate Earth. He teams up with son of Russian-Nazi Leader Heinrich Zemo and HYDRA Agent, Baron Zemo and together with the tesseract they plan to take over the world and be Gods! When Nick Fury finds out about this, he decides to put the Avengers Initiative in action and assemble a team of heroes. Meanwhile Loki uses his scepter to enslave The Hulk and uses him to destroy a railway line. Rick Jones and his Teen Brigade radio broadcast the attack to remind other heroes to stop him. However, Loki relayed the information to his brother Thor instead, in order to draw him into battle. Other heroes, Iron Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp also received the intercepted signal and arrived at the scene to reason with the green goliath. With Hulk now free from Loki's mind control, Thor reveals Loki and Baron's plan to the others and Nick Fury brings all of them to the Helicarrier. Now along with the now alive and unfrozen Captain America who has joined the team, they become "The Avengers" and together they save New York City from Loki's army, defeat Loki and Zemo & retrieve back the Tesseract. In the aftermath, Thor returns with Loki and the Tesseract to Asgard, where Loki will face their justice and the Avengers diverge, though Fury notes that at such a time that a new world-threatening menace emerges, the team will reassemble.
