Moonie is the male pet maltese of the Mackay family. Hearing a particularly loud howling at night, Mike and Mae were greatly disturbed, and the former tentatively goes outside to investigate, while Moonie, determined to protect his family, charges out to confront the howling creature. However, Mike finds Moonie's body a short time later and takes the remains out into the desert to properly dispose of them
