How to Train Your Dragon 2 is a live-action sequel currently scheduled for a June 11, 2027 release date. It is being directed by Dean DeBlois and will feature the main cast from the first film, including Mason Thames as Hiccup, Nico Parker as Astrid, and Gerard Butler as Stoick. The sequel will be based on the second animated movie, with DeBlois planning to make some changes to the original story.

Produced by Sony Pictures Animation in association with Unanimous Media and Modern Magic, the film stars Caleb McLaughlin, alongside an ensemble voice cast including Gabrielle Union, Stephen Curry (who also produces), Nicola Coughlan, Nick Kroll, David Harbour, Jenifer Lewis, Aaron Pierre, Patton Oswalt, Andrew Santino, Bobby Lee, Eduardo Franco, Sherry Cola, Jelly Roll and Jennifer Hudson. It follows an anthropomorphic goat named Will Harris who joins a basketball league in order to become the greatest of all time.
