A year and a half after the defeat of the Joker, Bruce Wayne has settled in as his crime fighting role. That is until a new highly intelligent criminal appears, setting up riddles and trials to test the Batman. One of these traps includes killing the Trapeze Artists of the Haly Traveling Circus John and Mary Grayson, leaving their son, Dick, an orphan. Dick becomes enraged and Bruce decides to take him under his wing to teach him how to control his anger and putting ut into defeating the Riddler.

After Batman introduced himself to Gotham City six months ago, a new type of criminal has followed. A crazed, mass murdering, highly intelligent criminal with pale skin and green hair from what appears to be a chemical burn is taking over the city and more importantly, self-ascending to the title of Batman's Equal.
