The series takes place after the events of The Bad Guys 2 (2025). After The Bad Guys get promoted to secret agents for I.S.G.L.O.P. they've been having a little bit of a hard time getting adjusted to the whole secret agent thing and trying to take down other bad guys, but all that gets pushed aside when The Bad Guys have to come out of hiding to stop an Alien Invasion commanded by the evil Professor Marmalade who is actually an Alien.

It is a revival of X-Men: The Animated Series (1992–1997), continuing from where that series ends and showing the X-Men face dangerous new challenges following the loss of their leader, Professor X. X-Men '97 is produced by Marvel Studios Animation, with DeMayo serving as head writer and Jake Castorena as supervising director. X-Men '97 is scheduled to premiere on March 20, 2024, and its first season will consist of ten episodes. A second season is in development.
