Generations ago they made a non-aggression pact with the McCormicks as long as they mind their own business and don't kill somebody. But when John McCormick, the father, dies, the family starts to suspect the Daltons of the crime, which means the peace between the two families is over. By the way, angels and demons might appear in later seasons.
